Boston is the capital and largest city in Massachusetts in the United States. The city is also unofficial capital of a small region known as New England. Boston is one of the oldest and richest cities in the United States. The city economy is supported by education, health care, finance, and high technology. Also nicknamed Beantown", "The Hub", Boston has big sway cultural, intellectual, and political matters. According to the 200 censuses, the city had a population of 589,141. Boston is the county seat of Suffolk County located at 42°20'N, 71°W. The city's colleges and universities had attracted modern industries to the city. Many computer hardware and software companies like EMC Corporation and biotechnology companies like Millennium Pharmaceuticals have made their setup in Boston. The city is known for colleges and universities as it is home to 60 colleges. Else then school and colleges, Boston also has Boston University, Emerson College, Berklee College of Music, Northeastern University and Boston Architectural Center and the famous Harvard University. Boston city has a strong mayor system. The mayor of the city is elected for a term of four years through plurality voting. The City Council is elected every two years. The Councilors from within themselves elect the President of the City Council. The School Committee is appointed by the mayor, as are city department heads. Apart from city government, many state authorities and commissions play an important role in the life of Bostonians. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority runs the "T", Boston's public transport system. The Massachusetts Port Authority runs the Boston's Logan International Airport
